The intelligent, creative and expressive are of the true 1% of human society.  They generate the spell that manifests the culture of our time, through their direct perception of the praeternatural realm of their consciousness.

AL:I.10 “Let my servants be few & secret: they shall rule the many & the known.”

How do you rule the many and the known?  Through the spell called inspiration by channeling a direct contact with the Secret Chiefs and producing a genuine insight into our being in the world at this time.

AL:II.58 “Yea! deem not of change: ye shall be as ye are, & not other. Therefore the kings of the earth shall be Kings for ever: the slaves shall serve. There is none that shall be cast down or lifted up: all is ever as it was. Yet there are masked ones my servants: it may be that yonder beggar is a King. A King may choose his garment as he will: there is no certain test: but a beggar cannot hide his poverty.”

The mass of people serves the few of genius, as the are led by these profound producers of ideas through a spell that generates the imagination and manifests culture.  Such is the work of the mages of our time; the Hermits of the Gnostic current.  Out of the mass come such rare beings; sages and artists, inventors and producers.  It is the mass that form our civilization manifest history, wherein being resides.

Note also, that there is a political leadership in our culture, and their mages weave an altogether different spell.  These are also Hermits; but such that seek control and power, which they obtain by depleting the power and humanity of their slaves, and taking it for themselves.  They are nihilists, but yet as mages, also sit in the Sanctuary of the Rosy Cross.  Their work builds the infrastructure of civilization, and is the backbone of everything around us.

For our Gnostic current, we start with the ancient Gnostics and some of their collective ideology; that of direct experience of the Divine without belief and faith.  But it is the movement of our school that built the Renaissance with those of cultural and spiritual genius; men and women, also of scientific, artistic and independent renown.  This sets up the America Revolution and ultimately, produces the Golden Dawn. 

Thelema comes off this and produces a modern form of Gnosticism that gets lost today, after having come through the spiritual ideals of the 60s, and the Dionysian missteps of the Hippie movement.  Their ‘free love’ was an extreme extension of our libertine attitudes towards sex, tantra and the productive love of our Sanctuary of the Gnosis.  We have but to correct this course by our individual actions and the teachings of the Sanctuary.

AL.III.42 “The ordeals thou shalt oversee thyself, save only the blind ones. Refuse none, but thou shalt know & destroy the traitors. I am Ra-Hoor-Khuit; and I am powerful to protect my servant. Success is thy proof: argue not; convert not; talk not over much! Them that seek to entrap thee, to overthrow thee, them attack without pity or quarter; & destroy them utterly. Swift as a trodden serpent turn and strike! Be thou yet deadlier than he! Drag down their souls to awful torment: laugh at their fear: spit upon them!”

The intelligentsia don’t need to be converted—nor does anyone.  Per the American Transcendentalist well-respected psychologist, William James, we know that there are depths and lengths of time involved in spiritual conversionary experiences.  So, we at the church, ‘Understand’ that some will come to swim on the surface of our waters for a short time, as others will swim its depths for that short time.  Then they will go, and take with them, a greater spirituality.

Others will come to swim either the surface or the depths of our waters for the course of their lives, and involve their families and our shared spirit.  Through our ‘sense of place,’ we generate the ‘sacred place’ of our sanctuary.  This is the Magick Lamp; the ‘light in the darkness’ that we hold out for those who are of ‘us.’  Individually, show how the Magick Lamp is lit after so much expansion of the breadth and depth of the mind.  Gnosis is the grace of knowing with this broadened mind through the immersion and experience of life and one’s being.  This knowing is then transformed into ‘Understanding’ through the experience of living.

But it is the intellect that is our evolutionary advancement.  This has only come to a small percentage; the 1% we call Genius, and the Hermits of our culture.  Note again, the three Gnostic Grades:  The Hermit, the Lover, and the Man of Earth.

The Hermit has a Pneumatic apprehension of a-priori of the mind and its comprehension of being and beingness.  He or she is the originator of a field of mind that mesmerizes and weaves a spell of culture; of the praeternatural mythos that we share among us.  Such a power yields to and hears a deep inner voice; recognizing such as divinity speaking to him or her.

The Lover is the Psychic being that recognizes and apprehends the communications from the Hermits.  The inner voice of the Hermits resonates with them, and they come to complete empathy with its message.  The Lover generates the culture of our church, and is responsible for its morale; bringing the light of spirit to the congregation.

The Man of Earth; the ancient Hylic is the receiver of the holy light, and receives the Eucharist of the Five Elements.  Through this, he or she gains an apprehension of the nature of the soul and its relationship to the world.  The experience of life and being in this world is the key to his or her Understanding, as he or she builds a life and fixes a place in the world.
